A useful first conversation starts here.

You do not need a finished brief. A short explanation of the business, the decision you face and what you would like to understand is a good starting point.

  1. Your business contextWhat do you sell, and who do you sell to?
  2. The question or decisionWhat is changing, uncertain or in need of review?
  3. The information availableWhat prices, costs or sales information do you already have?
  4. Your intended next stepWhat would a useful outcome allow you to do?

Keep the initial conversation at an overview level. Agree a suitable way to share confidential information before sending it.

Still exploring?

Can we start with a single issue?

Yes. An initial discussion can focus on one product range, a discount policy, a particular channel or another defined question. The useful next step depends on the issue, available information and scope agreed.

Do we need perfect data before calling?

No. Start by explaining what information is available. A useful first step may be to establish consistent definitions, identify gaps and decide which questions the current data can reasonably answer.

What information should we prepare?

A short description of the decision, current prices or packages and a sample of sales and direct cost data are useful. There is no need to share confidential customer-level records during an initial phone conversation.
